Programs by Age
The Young People’s Program - often referred to as YPP, has some exciting new additions this year!! We are now offering daily multigen morning worship and children/youth programming in both the morning and afternoon.
Nursery and Pre-K (birth-3 years old)
Our Nursery and Pre-K classroom is staffed by two wonderful volunteers who both have lots of experience working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Their main focus is providing a safe, caring and friendly environment full of fun!
The Nursery and Pre-K class meets in the “Kiddie Barn” each day from 10-12 and 1:30-3:30. Afternoon drop off is between 1:30 -2 to allow time for little ones to take a nap. Teachers make sure that days are filled with lots of fun, games and laughter as kids play with toys, take nature walks and island field trips, enjoy story and snack time, play on the playground and so much more!
Lower Elementary Group (4 years old – rising 2nd graders)
The Lower Elementary group will meet each day 10-12 and 1:30–3:30. This group is led by two wonderful volunteers, who will create the perfect environment to have fun and make new friends! Days are spent enjoying nature on both land and sea, taking island field trips to the Pelican Garden and music barn (to name a few) doing arts and crafts in the art barn, learning and visiting marine lab, storytelling, singing, laughing, making and launching the “famous” bottle rockets on the front lawn and so much more!
Upper Elementary (rising 3rd-6th graders)
The Upper Elementary group will meet each day 10-12 and 1:30–3:30. Two amazing volunteers will spend the mornings bonding with kids as they do all kinds of island exploration, go geocashing, visit the marine lab, row to the neighboring island of Smutty Nose, and so much more
Afternoons will be filled with island fieldtrips, visits to the art barn and time spent creating the “famous” duct boats for the duck tape regatta!
Middle School Youth (rising 7th-9th graders)
The Middle School Youth group will spend each day with two amazing teachers, for two hours each morning from 10-12 and an hour or two each afternoon starting at 1:30. Mornings are spent making new friends, enjoying group games, crafts, taking hikes and exploring nature, going rowing, and island field trips!
During the afternoons Middle School Youth will get to experience our brand-new youth focused “workshops”. These workshops will let youth explore fun and holistic approaches to:
Self Care (emotionally caring for ourselves)
Self Insight (specific plan to be aware of when we are stressed and what to do about it)
Aroma Therapy (sampling of essential oils and what they are for)
Sound Therapy (use of acoustics/vibration to self sooth)
Mindfulness (Increasing daily Mindfulness practices)
Meditation (mini meditations to increase the relaxation response)
Towards the end of the week the Middle School Youth Group participates in a late-night bonding experience full of games, music, ghost stories and more.
High School Youth (rising 10th graders- recent HS graduates)
This year High School Youth Group will meet in the afternoon from 1:30-4:30. Afternoons will be spent with 3 amazing volunteer advisers who will help lead youth in an island service project and tons of community building activities such as games, rowing to neighboring islands to go swimming and exploring the many treasures the island has to offer.
Youth will work together to plan and lead an evening worship service, take part in a bridging ceremony, enjoy an overnight bonding experience, and those who are interested can take part in the annual softball game! Meeting in the afternoon allows for space for our recently graduated youth to try out morning programing (before they bridge into the young adult group) without missing out on their last year with the high school youth group.
